On the winter fashion radar, there is no footwear as stylish as the boots. Boot is big, and it’s in every wardrobe. The fetish for this chic urban footwear is now at an all time high, so much so that brands have launched lines of summer boots as well. So, winter chill or summer roast, the boot camp is always on.

Leggy affair: While ankle, calf and thigh lengths are popular options, calf-length boot is the dominant trend right now. But, knee-boots might be a better bet for some. And, if you are keen, try the ones in distressed look. The calf length is neither too subtle like the ankle boots, nor too flamboyant like the thigh-high ones, and keeps you amply covered and warm. Booties will stay in fashion too. Also, singer and fashion designer Victoria Beckham recently put out models on the ramp wearing warmers with booties. The look sizzled, so try it out.

Hip heels: Wedge heels are red hot this season. Block heel, not too high, is another hottie. Also, boots with suspension heels are set to get popular. Suspension heel is more like a shock absorber when you walk. Coloured heels and soles are all the rage too. So, you can have a light coloured sole or a brick coloured one, a black with grey upper and so on.

Leather weather: Boots are being designed in some interesting suedes, and this includes distressed suede. Besides, nubuck — snuffed leather that is slightly waxed, leather with the brushed-off effect, shiny leather, full grain leather, and leather with snake-skin effect is on the menu. Also, boots in British millerain, which is primarily canvas with wax coating (made for water repellent military clothing) combined with leather is a strong trend. Harris Tweed, combined with leather, is another exciting trend to look out for.

Style in-style: Women’s boots inspired from the Chelsea boots in snake-effect leather is feminine to the core. For more glam, try the smooth, unlined, shiny leather boots. Desert
lace-up boots are also the rage. Another big boot trend is the rugged manly styles — buckles, straps you name it. That would also be the military-inspired flat boots with fur lining that can be folded at the collar to become ankle boots or worn straight up as a mid-calf boot. For men, Chelsea boot is back in style with side elastic, no laces, no zippers. Hiking is a strong
inspiration among men’s boots, and that’s how it stays this season. So, you have boots with lacing very much like hiking or mountaineering shoes in the
distressed worn-out look.

Colour code: Tan is the colour of the season even as browns and blacks are the regular classics that are always in fashion. Wheat nubuck, suedes in teal, mushroom, ochre yellow for women, in colours of navy and tobacco for men are hot shots.
