The winter chills often leave you with no option but to cover up from top to toe, making you look like a polar bear instead of a diva. But there’s an accessory that comes handy to pep up your look in a jiffy is a scarf. Scarves can change a drab outfit into a classy one. Team them up with other accessories to rend a feminine cheer to swathes of wintry fashion.

“Soft cotton, silk, and sheer fabrics with interesting washes are in rage. Double-sided fabrics and colour blocking are also the fads for winter 2011,” says fashion designer Nida Mahmood. “Fabrics that are skin-friendly and soft, like fine wool and cashmere are the season’s best sellers,” she adds.

ScarfHere are some designers telling you how to wrap your scarves in fun ways

Side bow scarf:
Wrap a sheer bright coloured scarf around your neck and tie a bow on one side. Let the ends of the scarf flow freely. It’s a nice way to add a hint of girlish charm. (By Gautam Gupta, designer)

Chin knot scarf:
Place the middle of your scarf on the top of your head so that it juts out just a bit over the top of your forehead. Allow the two scarf ends to dangle loosely by your ears. Tie both of the dangling ends together under your chin to form a stylish knot. (By Rimple Narula, designer)

Bandana neck wrap:
Start by folding the bandana or a square scarf in half to form a triangle. Place the long edge along your neck with the triangle pointing downward. Wrap the ends around your neck then knot in front, under the triangle.
