2 Delhi snatchers, wanted in over 100 criminal cases, arrested in Gurugram

The crime branch of Gurugram police on Friday busted a gang of snatchers with the arrest of two men based in Delhi, who were operating in the city and nearby areas. According to the police, the arrested snatchers were involved in almost a hundred cases, including attempt to murder, snatching, theft, robbery, dacoity and drug peddling.

Two countrymade pistols, four live cartridges, two chains and two Bajaj Pulsar motorcycles were seized from the duo, identified as Vikas alias Totla(37) and Abdul Shamshad alias Kala(32). They had been residing in Delhi for the last 16 years, police said.

Police said both were history-sheeters and had over 100 cases registered against them. They were out on bail from Tihar jail in February this year. With their arrest, police claimed to have solved over 24 cases of snatching reported in the recent past in the east (sectors 56, 57, Sohna Road) and west zones (Palam Vihar) of Gurugram.Shamsher Singh, assistant commissioner of police (crime), said the arrests were made by the anti-snatching squad, Sushant Lok-1, following information that the accused would be coming to Palam Vihar for a snatching operation.

“After receiving the tip-off, a team was formed to nab the snatchers. On Tuesday, the team laid a trap on Palam Vihar road and intercepted them while they were riding a black Pulsar motorcycle. Two gold chains were recovered from them,” Sandeep Singh, sub-inspector, anti-snatching squad, Sushant Lok-1, said.

Police said the accused sold these gold chains in Delhi and nearby areas. The jeweller involved has also been identified and will be arrested soon. “Jewellers buying gold ornaments without proper bills are on the radar,” Singh said.
