The issue of illegal constructions was hotly debated in the MCG meeting on Monday. “We want to know how many unauthorised constructions have been identified by the
MCG in ward 11,” said Seema Pahuja, councillor, adding that the enforcement wing of the MCG had demolished some constructions in her ward without intimating her last week.

The MCG has planned the drive on the weekend keeping in mind the availability of the police force. According to the MCG authorities, the ‘hit-list’ will be handed over to the enforcement team only half-an-hour before the drive.

“We are not against demolition by the enforcement wing but we should be kept in the loop on what is happening in our ward,” said another councillor. However, the commissioner did not respond.

Out of the 400 unauthorised constructions identified by the MCG, only 13 have been demolished so far.

“The enforcement wing is being monitored by the deputy commissioner PC Meena and the team comprises officials of both the MCG and District Town Planning,” said Anju Chaudhary, joint commissioner of the civic body.

Ram Niwas, state financial commissioner-cum-principal secretary, urban local bodies, has directed MCG commissioner Sudhir Rajpal to expedite the action against unauthorized constructions in March.
