Agent dupes travel firm of Rs. 7.5 lakh

An online travel agency has lodged a complaint against a man for duping more than 600 of its potential customers by promising them holiday packages which never came in their way. HT reports.

An online travel agency has lodged a complaint against a man for duping more than 600 of its potential customers by promising them holiday packages which never came in their way.

The accused took Rs. 7.5 lakh from the victims but never deposited the same in the account of the travel company, the police said on Friday.

The accused, an agent of ibibo.com, had signed an agreement with the website’s for collection of payments from customers through online payment gateway.

According to the police, a case under IT Act was registered in Sadar police station on Thursday. Rambeer Singh of ibibo.com had filed a complaint with the Gurgaon police’s cyber crime cell in September 2012 against Varun Dixit, a resident of Delhi.

The accused had also paid the security deposit to the travel agency as a part of the agreement. The accused sold holiday packages for Rs. 5,999 to 600 customers but failed to give them the promised packages.

The fraud came to light when a few customers complained to the web portal about payment deduction through internet banking for the purchased packages that they never received, a police officer said.
