On Monday, sub-inspector Birender Singh was on duty at Ambedkar Chowk when an autorickshaw was signalled to stop at the junction.

“The officer signalled the autorickshaw driver to stop at the junction, but he did not and was caught a little ahead of the junction,” Tara Chand, sub-inspector, the investigating officer in the case, said.

After the auto was stopped, the driver got into an argument with the officer and manhandled him, the police said.

An FIR was registered at Sohna city police station under sections 332 and 353 of the IPC.

The 40-year-old driver, a resident of Raipur village in Sohna, was arrested on the spot and was released on bail by a city court.

According to the police, the driver told them that he was in a hurry to pick up a commuter, which is why he did not stop at the junction.

This is the third such incident in the last two weeks.

On Sunday, a traffic constable was allegedly assaulted by three people, who were on two motorcycles, near South City 2 traffic signal around 10am, police said. The trio was arrested later on Sunday and sent to jail for 14 days by a city court.

On July 27, two traffic policemen were beaten up by a driver of a car, who was smoking near a traffic signal in Sector 38 and blocking traffic. The accused was arrested later.
