Civic body ties up with Gurgaon Inc to set up cycle stands

After its launch last week, the Public Bicycle Sharing will be expanded across Gurgaon next week.

After its launch last week, the Public Bicycle Sharing (PBS) will be expanded across Gurgaon next week. As part of a tie-up with corporate firms, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) and Cykul will use four cycle stations of IT firm Nagarro in Udyog Vihar, taking the total number of PBS cycle stands to seven.

“The CEO of Nagarro has given us consent to use the company’s four cycle stands. Our technical team is on it and we will be able to use them by next week,” Kaushik Bandopadhyay, project manager of Cykul -- the company that operates the facility in Gurgaon, said.

With this, Gurgaon will have seven stands -- three managed by the MCG and four by Nagarro.

On March 8, the PBS stations were launched at three locations -- Huda City Centre, Unitech Cyber Park and Kingdom of Dreams There are a total of 100 cycles and 140 parking slot.

“We intend to rope in other corporates for the purpose. We are in touch with many of them,” Bandopadhyay said.

Gurgaon has been a front runner in the country in the promotion of non-motorised transport. Taking a step forward in this direction, the MCG and Cykul launched PBS.

“We are working towards expanding the PBS system to 1,000 cycles in the next three months and about 3,000 by December,” TL Satyaprakash, acting commissioner of the MCG, said.

Initially, the service will be free with a security deposit of Rs 250. The users will be issued cards that can be swiped to get the cycles. The system will be operated manually in the beginning and later, it may be automated.

A survey by Union ministry of urban development had suggested a network with 1,200 cycles in the city in the first phase.
