Gurgaon district is a notified area where commercial exploitation of groundwater has been restricted by the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA), and the DC has formed a nodal authority to look into the matter.

Meena will also form a team of officials to conduct inspections and seal illegal borewells in the city after it gets the Huda report.

The deputy commissioner issued the order while presiding over a monthly meeting of district officers on Tuesday.

He directed Huda authorities to provide the status of water supply in colonies under their jurisdiction so that borewells used for construction and commercial purposes can be sealed and dismantled.

"They have to submit the status of water supply in private-licensed colonies falling in their areas as well as in Huda sectors," Meena said.

He also directed the concerned sub divisional magistrates (SDM) to keep a watch in their respective areas. As per guidelines issued by the Central Ground Water Authority, construction and installation of any new groundwater extraction structure in completely banned in the entire district of Gurgaon.

"We have taken this step as per CGWA guidelines and also to tighten the noose around violators who extract groundwater illegally and rampantly," Meena added.
