City police commissioner Alok Mittal has sent a proposal to the director general of police to upgrade Gurgaon’s cyber crime cell to a dedicated police station.

The Gurgaon police have been mulling over the proposal of such a police station for long.

“I have sent a proposal to the DGP to sanction a new police station to be called the cyber crime police station. It will most probably come up at the Sector 51 building though a final decision will be taken after permission comes through,” said Mittal.

At present, cyber crime complaints such as hacking of email accounts, BPO frauds, data and identity thefts among others are filed at the local police stations of the areas where the crimes occur.

These complaints are then referred to the cyber crime cell.

“At times filing such complaints at regular police stations becomes difficult owing to jurisdictional confusions. To do away with the problem, this police station will have jurisdiction over the whole district of Gurgaon,” added Mittal.

Gurgaon has a cyber cell headed by an inspector-level police officer and led by DCP (crime).

Despite training the cyber crime cell staff by Nasscom at the Madhuban police academy of the Haryana police, Gurgaon police have on many occasions taken the help of IT experts for cracking cases.
