Family members of victim Krishna Singh claimed she was under treatment for depression.

Her husband Ramchander Singh claimed she went to the lawn and poured kerosene on her body and set herself on fire.

As the fire engulfed her, she started shouting and rushed outside the house.

Her family members tried to douse the fire by putting a blanket. Her younger son burnt his hand while trying to save his mother.

She was rushed to a hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. The deceased’s body was handed over to the family after postmortem.

The police said Singh seemed to have planned to take the extreme step and had kept a bottle of kerosene hidden in the flower pots in the lawn.

Singh is survived by three children.

Her eldest son is a doctor with a reputed hospital in Delhi.

In 2010 too, she had attempted to end her life in Haridwar. She had jumped into Ganga river but the life guards had saved her.
