Gurgaon police on Saturday claimed to have solved the jigsaw puzzle of events that led to shooting in which Dutt and Sharma were killed at the latter's Ardee City flat in the early hours of May 11.

Torn between his estranged wife and lover, Dutt had been under intense emotional pressure since four days in the run-up to the shooting. Joint Commissioner of Police, Gurgaon, Maheshwar Dayal confirmed that the events on May 7, when Dutt had gone to meet his daughter in Faridabad, led to a chain of events which culminated in the bloody incident.

According to sources, Dutt's daughter, who lives with her mother in Faridabad, had arrived a friend's house to attend a birthday party on May 7. Parul and Neeraj Sharma, who live in the neighbourhood, are Dutt's friends.

They informed the police officer about his daughter being present at the party. Parul used to consider Dutt as her brother, sources said.

Dutt went to the birthday party to meet her but the hosts informed Dutt's estranged wife. She also reached there with her brother, who abused Dutt and an argument ensued. Dutt, being the technical whiz he was, recorded the verbal volleys directed at him on his iPhone.

Soon after, Dutt filed a complaint of misbehaviour against his wife and her brother at the Sector-37 police station, Faridabad.

On May 8, Dutt's wife also registered a complaint against Dutt at the same police station for meeting her daughter.

Both the parties reached the police station and Dutt produced the recorded evidence before the police.

The matter was settled with the police playing the arbiter. Dutt's friend Neeraj and Geeta were with him.

Later, he dropped Neeraj at the airport and on their way back to Gurgaon, Dutt and Geeta had an argument. On May 9, after Badrish left for his office in New Delhi, Geeta reached Parul's house and told her about the whole episode.

She also reportedly told parul how Dutt did not even visit her when she was lodged in jail in connection with a case of forgery.

The next day, Dutt, called up Geeta's sister in Mumbai and complained about her. However, Geeta did not take it kindly and called up her sister to inform that everything was all right. She then called up Parul around 9.45pm and spoke to her for 14 minutes, 75 seconds.

After Dutt returned home from work, the duo had an argument again. They had their dinner around 1.30am after which Dutt shot Geeta and later turned the gun on himself, the police said.

"The series of fights and between Dutt, his wife Amita and Geeta suggests that the personal tensions existed from a long time. But it was only when he met his daughter that the tension took a turn for the worse. It may have led him to a suicidal rage," said Dayal.
