The family called the encounter ‘operation zidd’ (obstinacy) and alleged that Gadoli was killed because he made enemies of a group of policemen. They claimed that the policemen often used to threaten the family, saying they will shoot Gadoli wherever they saw him.

Gadoli’ sister Raj Bala said, “Murdering my brother was ‘operation zidd’ for the crime unit. They could have arrested him but their intention was to kill him. Had they arrested him, he would have revealed information which could have led to the suspension of many police officers. The crime units intentionally killed him.”

The family demanded that the crime unit officers who were involved in the encounter be arrested. They said if no action is taken against the officers, they will protest on the national highway on Wednesday.

The family also alleged that the police implicated Gadoli in false cases but he was acquitted by the court.

“What increases our suspicion is the fact that the reward for his arrest, which was Rs. 25,000, was increased to Rs. 1.25 lakh overnight. Last year, when policemen raided our house, they damaged many items. They also misbehaved with my sister. To destroy the evidence against them, they broke the CCTV cameras installed in the house,” Raj Bala alleged. She claimed that Gadoli had left the crime world long ago.

Gurgaon police commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk refuted all allegations.

“These are baseless allegations. The encounter was not planned,” he said.

Bala said family members, who have gone to Mumbai to get his body, will return on Wednesday.
