Police said the victim, Vedpal Singh (47), son of Karan Singh, was shot dead near his home around 7am.

Eyewitnesses claimed to have seen his cousins Vikram, Sunder and Munder lurking at the scene and said Munder was the one who opened fire at Singh. His cousins reside in the same locality.

Though on the run in the wake of the crime, the accused, Munder, was later arrested by the police.

Eyewitnesses said Munder, son of Hakim Singh, fled the spot along with his two brothers after the crime. Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused and Singh were locked in an old land dispute and shot him dead.

Police sources said the accused were aware that Singh was in the habit of taking a morning stroll and were waiting for him near his house.

Eyewitnesses said Munder fired point blank from his countrymade pistol and Singh slumped to the ground as the bullet pierced his head.

After getting word of the incident from some locals, a police team rushed to the spot and took him to a nearby hospital. However, he was declared brought dead by doctors.

The police then sent the body for post-mortem examination and a case was registered at Sohna police station under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

Police said the accused has a criminal history and has been involved in many cases. “The main accused has been arrested and is being questioned. However, the other two are still on the run,” inspector Arun Kumar, station house officer, SHO, Sohna Police station, said.

There have been similar recent killings in Gurgaon attributed to property disputes.

On January 7, a 50-year-old ex-serviceman was shot dead by an unidentified person near his residence in Badshahpur village at around 9 am . The victim, Subhash, was visiting his plot near his residence when he was shot dead.

On July 28, 45-year-old Surender Rana was allegedly shot dead at Jharsa road. The deceased worked with a news channel and he was shot with his own gun.
