The Haryana government finally decided to reimburse residents for bearing cost of transformers and cables as well as submersible pumps at Mayfield Gardens on Saturday night when a 630 KV transformer had caught fire because of damaged underground cables, plunging about 400 houses into darkness for about 36 hours.

Earlier, both government agencies and developer had refused to bear the cost and affected residents had to pool in money to hire transformer and bear other expenses.
The government has decided to reimburse Rs. 10 lakh - the money spent by the residents on hiring a 630 kv transformer, replacement of underground cable and submersible pump. The government would now recover the dues from the developer — whose license had been cancelled — and resurrect the deficient infrastructure of Mayfield Gardens.
The Director General Town Country Planning (DG-TCP), TC Gupta, on Wednesday, sought estimates of pending developmental works from the engineering wing of the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda), Gurgaon, and also from Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN), Gurgaon, in respect of deficient internal developments works in Mayfield Colony situated in village Wazirabad and Bindapur, Sectors 47, 50, 51, 52 and 57 at Gurgaon.
The expenditure to be incurred on deficient physical infrastructure is on roads (Rs. 380.80 lakh), on water supply, sewerage and storm water drain (Rs. 177.30 lakh) and on electrical infrastructure (Rs. 1204.87 lakh).
“The developer had to complete these works but they did not do so and now the government will complete all pending works at Mayfield Gardens. And the money will be paid by the developer,” said Praveen Kumar, Administrator, Huda.
The government has cancelled the licence of the developer on February 4 due to non-payment of licence fee.
For the government, Mayfield Gardens’ problem was unique and no policy framework existed for the government to meet such a crisis.
“The government has taken the matter seriously and will formulate a regulation to meet crises arising due to the fault of developers,” said Kumar.
The residents of Mayfield Gardens,J Block, pleaded for immediate government help.
“The government can sell lands of developers to generate money and meet funding requirements for rectifying the deficient internal developments works at Mayfield Garden,” said DC Yadav, a resident.
