Residents claim that official apathy has compounded the existing civic menace created by stray pigs, cattle and monkeys.

The sector is lined by an extensive green belt near the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway, which makes it vulnerable to the onslaught of monkeys and pigs.

The stray animals spoil the greens and even enter houses, say residents.

“At least 20 monkeys can be seen moving around in the sector at any time of the day. They enter houses, attack people and dirty the water tanks. The pigs loiter around in large numbers and destroy our greens,” said RS Raghav, a resident.

The residents say they have approached the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) at regular intervals to remove the stray animals from the area but the civic body has been unable to resolve the issue.

“The authorities said the contract to undertake the clearance of stray animals has not been renewed. When the MCG can charge us House tax, why can’t it provide such basic services?,” asked Ramesh Vashisht, another resident.

Asked about the problem, MCG chief medical officer Sumit Dhankar said the civic body was trying to do as much as possible to tackle the problem. “We have floated a tender for the contract to undertake the removal of stray animals and hope to get it in place in another 20 days,” said Dhankar.
