Gurgaon: Elderly woman dies after speeding SUV hits ambulance

In a hit-and-run case, an 81-year-old ailing woman was killed when the ambulance in which she was being escorted to the hospital was allegedly hit by a speeding Toyota Fortuner near Huda City Metro Station.

An 81-year-old ailing woman was killed when the ambulance in which she was being escorted to the hospital was allegedly hit by a speeding Toyota Fortuner near Huda City Metro Station, police said on Monday.

Identified as Sawri Devi, a resident of Sector 17 A, the deceased was being rushed to the private hospital near the metro station crossing, when the SUV with Delhi’s registration number hit the ambulance near Plaza hotel. The driver fled from the spot after the accident.

Devi, suffering with a chest disease, was injured in the accident that took place at 5:30 am on Monday morning. She succumbed to her injuries three hours later at the private hospital, police said.

Her grandson Hemant Yadav, who was also in the ambulance, lodged a police complaint in which he told police that the unknown driver of the SUV having a Delhi registration number was driving in a high speed and fled from the accident spot. Yadav works as a contractor.

Based on his complaint, a case was lodged against unknown driver of the SUV under sections 279 (rash driving) 304 A (causing death due to negligence) of Indian Penal Code at DLF City Sector 29 police station.

“The woman was being shifted to the private hospital when the SUV, driven by an unknown person, hit the ambulance injuring her. The driver is at large and we are trying to procure CCTV footage, if any, to further investigate the case,” said assistant sub-inspector, Kanwar Singh, the investigation officer.
