The Special Investigation Team constituted by Gurgaon police is scanning the CCTV footage and data dump of the area from where the 26-year old woman was abducted and later raped by three men in a car. The police are also trying to ascertain the route taken by the abductors, but are finding it difficult as the incident happened in the wee hours of Saturday and the victim isn’t sure of the route that the abductors took.
Sumit Kuhar, DCP, crime, who is leading the SIT, however, said that they have questioned the victim’s friend, the driver of the Ola cab and the vendors in Gurgaon and Delhi to establish the sequence of events. “A number of officers are working on the case and on all possible angles are being explored to ensure that the culprits are nabbed at the earliest,” Kuhar said.
Earlier in the morning, a group of students from Sikkim along with Dilip Kumar, deputy resident commissioner, Delhi, called on police commissioner Sandeep Khirwar to press for early action in the case.
Sources in the police department, meanwhile, admitted that the investigation was slow to begin with as the time of commission of the crime quoted by the victim was found to be two hours ahead of the actual time. While the victim initially told the police that she had reached Sukhrali around 12.30am, the police, on investigation, learned that she had left Delhi around 2am and reached Gurgaon around 2.40 pm.
The incident also happened between 2 am and 2.45 am, police commissioner Sandeep Khirwar confirmed.
The investigators have obtained call detail records of victim and her friend and they are being scanned. The police have also learned that she made a number of calls late Friday evening and these are also being scanned. The statements of two vendors have also been recorded by the police.
On the basis of the information made available by the woman, the sketch of one of the victim was also released on Monday evening. The police team is also scanning the footage obtained from RWAs and other sources to gather more information about the car used in the incident.
Sources in police also said that the victim’s friend from Shahdara with whom she had spent the evening in Delhi had met her, in person, for the first time. Earlier, they were in touch with each other over phone and Whatsapp. After catching a movie with his friend, the victim went to a bar. Later, they headed to Hauz Khas village where they bought cigarettes and paan (Betel leaves).
The victim had been living in a rented accommodation in Sukhrali village for the last six years and was scouting for job opportunities through a placement agency run by a Delhi youth. The victim also refused to meet a delegation from the Northeast on Monday.
It was her friend who had booked an Ola cab on Saturday around 2am and dropped her off near her house half-an-hour later in Sukhrali. The woman was allegedly abducted by three men from this point, and later dumped in Delhi.
