The enforcement team of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) stopped construction of properties at an illegal colony in Sector 22 and also stalled work on installing an illegal mobile phone tower at Ashok Vihar Phase 2 on Tuesday.
According to MCG officials, several unauthorised establishments were being erected at the Noble Enclave.
As per the town planning department of the MCG, Noble Enclave is an illegal colony despite being part of a list of 47 colonies that the civic body has sent to the state government for regularisation. Officials said that any new construction till such time there is a change in the legal status of the colony will be deemed illegal.
“At our end, we have submitted a list of illegal colonies to the state government for being recognised as such, as it will allow the MCG to provide civic amenities to these areas. However, until an approval is received, any new construction in the locality will be deemed illegal and will, accordingly, be sealed or demolished,” Sudhir Singh Chauhan, senior town planner, MCG, said.
Officials on Tuesday stopped all construction activities in the colony and sent notices to violators. A few under-construction structures were also demolished with the help of earthmovers.
The MCG also sealed an under construction illegal mobile tower at Ashok Vihar Phase 2 after receiving complaints from residents.
On Saturday, MCG, Delhi Licensed Service Area (LSA), the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Ministry of Communications organised an awareness programme on electromagnetic field (EMF) emissions and mobile towers at a community centre in Sector 45. The event was held after councillors asked MCG officials to elaborate risks posed by mobile towers during a House meeting on January 15.
“During the House meeting and subsequent awareness programmes, the MCG dispelled myths that exposure to low-level radiation from mobile towers is harmful to humans. Only towers that have been erected without prior permission or licenses from MCG are being sealed or demolished,” Chauhan added.
On December 22, 2017, the MCG had sealed mobile towers in Ashok Vihar after its owner could not produce any document to prove that he had the necessary permission from the civic body.
