Gurgaon: Newly opened U-turn on Golf Course Road draws residents’ ire

Residents said that the U-turn on Golf Course Road poses a threat to children who get dropped off by their school buses there

Residents of Vipul Belmonte and Summit Apartments in DLF 5 have claimed that the newly opened U-turn on Golf Course Road, opposite their condominiums, is leading to regular snarls.

Residents claimed that opening of the U-turn has resulted in the merging of the three-way traffic from Park Drive, Cyber City and AIT Chowk at the spot, leading to snarls during peak hours as well as accidents. They said that owing to a bank and a private hospital in the vicinity of the condominiums, the spot is heavily congested.

The major objections raised by residents of Belmonte are that the U-turn is located right at the entrance to their condominium, it lacks signages and also poses a threat to commuters, especially children, as their school buses drop them near the entrance.

“The turn is ill-conceived and serves no purpose. Authorities need to relocate the U-turn to somewhere before the AIT Chowk where there aren’t too many residential and commercial areas,” Naveen Chaurasia, a resident of Belmonte, said. He said there are frequent mishaps at the spot.

Residents of Summit Apartments said that the turn is ‘ill-conceived’, as they are not only unable to take the U-turn located just before the entrance that leads to their condominium but have to take a sharp turn for accessing the newly opened turn.

“For accessing the cut, I have to take a sharp turn and be wary of the high-speed traffic from Cyber City. Where is the logic in having the two turns at such proximity? They are only adding to the congestion,” Meera Rai, a resident of Summit Apartments, said.

Traffic police officials said that the Golf Course Road is being administered by the Haryana urban development authority (Huda) and the onus is on them to carry out engineering changes on the stretch.

Yashpal Yadav, HUDA administrator, promised action in the matter.

“I have just received a complaint on the U-turn today. I’ll look into their objections raised and officials will execute changes, if needed, by tomorrow,” Yadav said.
