Gurugram Sec 27 residents allege inaction by MCG against street vendors

The residents said they had lodged complaints of encroachments on pavements of Sector 27/28 dividing road at CM Window on April 4. But, they alleged, that the MCG officials did not remove fruit and vegetable vendors from the pavements, closed the case on July 31, and filed an action taken report (ATR) on the CM Window.

The residents of Sector 27 have alleged that the officials of Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) closed the complaints they lodged at CM Window without redressing them.

The residents said they had lodged complaints of encroachments on pavements of Sector 27/28 dividing road at CM Window on April 4. However, according to the residents, the MCG officials did not remove fruit and vegetable vendors from the pavements, closed the case on July 31, and filed an action taken report (ATR) on the CM Window.

The residents are likely to meet MCG commissioner Yashpal Yadav soon.

Dr GD Tyagi, joint secretary Resident welfare association (RWA) sector 27, said, “There are over 20 fruit and vegetable vendors who have permanently settled their carts on pavements and they cause inconvenience to commuters and pedestrians. The sector belongs to MCG who is responsible for action but unfortunately it is not happening. A MCG enforcement team carried out a drive against vendors 10 days ago but that was an eyewash. When we click on our ATR, someone else’s ATR opens up.”

Haryana government in April 2017 had appointed three eminent citizens each from every assembly constituency to keep eyes on complaints at the CM Window and ensure proper redressal of the grievances. The eminent citizens were supposed to put their remarks on a CM Window complaint before an MCG official filed the ATR.

PN Singh, an eminent citizen of the area, said, “The MCG enforcement squad had removed vendors, but according to the residents, the vendors have returned. I will seek an explanation from the MCG officials regarding this matter. I tried opening the ATR of Sector 27, but the website showed me the ATR of another complaint. I believe that there is a technical glitch.”

Mahender Singh, a resident, said, “MCG enforcement team just collected the fruit and vegetable baskets of the roadside vendors for an eyewash. The pavement is still fully encroached, and this creates problems for both vehicles as well as commuters.”

YS Gupta, additional municipal commissioner, MCG, said, “Residents can approach the joint commissioner in this regard. If something is wrong, it will be resolved.”
