The city police commissioner has directed all 23 station house officers to make sure no woman below 18 years is asked to visit a police station for reporting or lodging a complaint on sexual harassment, molestation or rape.

Instead, the SHO concerned should visit the house of the victim and record her statements and register the case.

The members of the family of the victim could be called to the police station, if it is required. The order will come into effect from Wednesday.

Alok Mittal, the commissioner of police, said, "Any complaint of snatching along with sexual harassment would be intimated on call to the police official and no official can harass or ask the victim to come down to the police station to lodge a complaint."

The directions have been given to the nodal officer to meet the victims and do the counselling for them, the officer said.

"All the sessions would be on record and would be monitored on a daily basis."

There are two women helplines - one at Sector 51 traffic office and another at police control room. The commissioner also asked the police officials not to create any hurdles for victims.
