Inmates of childcare centres to get health cards

The Haryana government has decided to issue individual health cards to each inmate of Child Care Institutions (CCIs) in the state within a month and ensure that they get health services and formal education.

All district police heads have also been asked to complete police verification of staff in all CCIs and women shelter homes in their areas by Tuesday.

This was stated by Haryana chief secretary PK Chaudhery after presiding over a meeting convened by the Haryana Women and Child Development Department on Monday to review the welfare steps taken by various agencies of the state government on the recommendations of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights.

Chaudhery said that an individual health card would ensure regular health check-ups of the inmates and follow-up treatment regarding specialised health services if any, could be provided.

As per records, there are a total of 105 child institutions housing 4,243 inmates in the state. The maximum number of 12 CCIs are located in Gurgaon and Faridabad each, followed by 11 in Karnal and 10 in Sonepat.
