Man beaten to death under one of Gurugram’s busiest flyovers

The unidentified man is suspected to have died of head injury after being attacked with sticks.

An unidentified man was allegedly beaten to death, on Sunday evening, with sticks by four men who came in an autorickshaw to the junction under the Subhash Chowk flyover, one of city’s biggest and busiest intersections, police said.

Passersby took the man, whose age is estimated to be 35 years, to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead, assistant sub-inspector Mohan Puri, who is the investigating officer in the case, said.

Puri said the victim was unemployed and a a drug addict who would hang around near an auto rickshaw stand in the area.

“Around 3.30 pm on Sunday, four men in their thirties came and started assaulting the deceased with sticks under the flyover, where there is a u-turn to go towards Huda City Centre,” the officer said, adding that there was no CCTV cameras in the area and police have not identified the accused as yet.

“Locals said the deceased was a migrant, but the police are yet to confirm the facts. Prima facie it seems that he died due to a head injury,” Puri said.

A post-mortem examination of the body is due as, according to procedure, the police have to wait for 72 hours before an autopsy since it is an unidentified body. An FIR has been registered under sections 302 (murder) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code at Sadar police station.

The FIR was filed based on statement by Satpal, who owns a few autorickshaws and frequents the area. Satpal said that the deceased would come to the area quite often and slept near a public toilet. Satpal told the police that he also did not know the name or any other details about the deceased.
