These centres would collect applications from driving licence seekers to do away with the long queues at the E-Disha Kendra, which is the only centre in Gurgaon where applications are received and processed.

Additional chief secretary (transport) Ramendra Jakhu told Hindustan Times on Thursday that his department “took serious note of the lapses in the driving licence issuing system in Gurgaon” and had decided to decentralise the application collection to start with.

“I was told about the HT coverage highlighting the issue of touts influencing the driving licence issuing mechanism on Thursday. Following this, we have decided to address the issue of long queues at the centre. We, therefore, have decided to reduce the waiting time for the applicants by setting up a number facilitation centres across the city on the lines of the passport issuing authority,” he added.

Jakhu said the proposed centres would be manned by an agency authorised by the transport department.

“Its staff across these centres would collect the applications and process the same before finally handing over to the authority for final delivery of the licence,” he added.

The official said that the agency and the locations for the same facility would be decided soon.
