The traffic police have launched a drive against trucks parked illegally on city roads.

Heavy vehicles are allowed to enter the city only after 10pm but most flout the rules.
To prevent rising accidents, the police have decided to rein in the errant truck drivers.
The containers and trucks add to the traffic chaos and spur massive jams in narrow city lanes.
“In order to curb increasing accidents involving heavy vehicles, we have restricted the movement of buses and trucks within the city. The haphazard movement of heavy vehicles put commuters' life in danger apart from hampering movement of traffic. We have started imposing fines for violating traffic rules,” said a senior traffic police official.
In April this year, the police had seized six Maruti Suzuki containers after they violated the no-entry rule. The drivers were not even carrying the required documents.
According to the police, a heavy vehicle cannot enter the main city from 6am to 10pm.
Last year, in the wake of widespread public outcry over inconvenience being caused by trucks, the traffic police had extended the no-entry timing from four to five hours in the morning and from four to six hours in the evening. Haphazard parking of large trucks near the Maruti Suzuki plant in Palam Vihar has been a major cause of nuisance for residents.
