Ola autos to make commuting easy in Gurgaon, Noida

Around 3,000 autorickshaw drivers have already tied up with Ola in both cities. Autorickshaws with GPS-enabled smartphones will ply at a base fare of Rs 25 and Rs 5 for every kilometre. However, the night charges will be applicable from 11pm to 5am and the basic fare will be multiplied by Rs 1.25 of the normal fare.

Ola autos will come with a billing system that will record the details of the trip, including the time of booking, distance travelled and fare payable, either in cash or through Ola money. The users can also request a copy of the bill after reaching the destination.

“The application will allow users to get bills for their destination. This way the commuters will be sure of the money they are charged and the auto drivers will have a record of all rides,” an industry source said.

Currently, there are more than 4,000 autorickshaws running in Gurgaon but none has meters installed. This often leads to arguments between the commuters and the auto drivers since, many a time, auto drivers charge more. Residents hope that Ola Auto will stop this nuisance since the charges will be fixed and this can be easily monitored by a third party.

Rekha Jha, an MNC employee, said, “Every autorickshaw has different fares for the same route and it gets difficult to bargain with them every day. Many a times the autorickshaw drivers get aggressive and you have no other choice but to pay them. But with the Ola Auto app, I hope this problem is resolved. I am sure that the app will also make last-mile connectivity safer for women.”
