Police book seven for selling liquor, worth Rs 3 lakh, without licence
In total, the police have recovered 110 cases of IMFL and country liquor from their possession. The men were booked under the Excise Act, said the police.
The police on Sunday booked at least seven persons and arrested four of them for illegally selling liquor in different parts of the city. A stock of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) and country liquor was seized, along with vehicles loaded with liquor bottles estimated to be worth Rs 3 lakh.
In total, the police have recovered 110 cases of IMFL and country liquor from their possession. The men were booked under the Excise Act, said the police.
The police said they have registered cases at DLF phases 1 and 2, New Colony, Sector 53, Sector 5 and Kherki Daula police station. Shamsher Singh, assistant commissioner of police (crime) said while they have arrested four of the suspects and three are still at large. They were allegedly involved in illegally transporting and selling liquor at different spots in the city on Sunday.
During investigation when the accused men were questioned regarding the liquor, they were not able to provide documents related to their stock.
The police said that they confessed to selling liquor but the sources of procurement are yet to be confirmed, said the police.
“We are investigating who the liquor buyers are and since when were they operating this illegal business in the city,” said Singh.
One of the accused had parked a mini truck near Bristol Chowk and was waiting for a buyer to receive the delivery. The crime branch of Sector 31 received a tip-off and alerted the DLF Phase 1 police station team. Another accused was arrested from Shankar Chowk.
In two other incidents, the drivers were arrested from Sector 5 and Kherki Daula area, but an accomplice fled from the spot when police intercepted their vehicles. The arrested men have been identified as Rajbir Singh of Pataudi, Bireesh Kumar of Eta, UP, Hansraj Singh of Sector 31 and Jagrup Singh of Kherki Daula. They were released on bail on Monday, said the police.
The police said they are yet to unearth any past record of the four arrested individuals. However, investigation is on.
