Once again, the Gurgaon traffic police have decided to initiate the project of widening the entry and exit points from Sirhaul toll plaza to Rajiv Chowk on the DelhiGurgaon Expressway.

The project, aimed at decongesting the expressway, has been pending for the last two years. The expansion of the 18 entry and exit points on the expressway will begin by February-end, said an official.
The traffic police were supposed to meet officials of the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) and Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) on Wednesday to discuss the plan. However, the meet got postponed to Friday.
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will assist Huda in the project.
Bharti Arora, joint commissioner of police for traffic, wants to ensure that the implementation of the project does not disrupt traffic flow, causing inconvenience to commuters. “The entry and exit points are congested and the situation worsens during rush hours. The rising number of accidents on the stretch prompted Huda to give green signal for the project,” she said.
Meanwhile, Huda is scheduled to complete the widening of service lanes along the expressway within a month. “The service lanes on either sides of the expressway are extremely narrow because of which there is major congestion at a few junctions. To solve this problem, we have asked the engineering wing of Huda to widen the service lanes,” said Anita Yadav, Huda administrator.
This, according to traffic experts, will help organise traffic at Shankar Chowk, which caters to traffic from Udyog Vihar, Kapashera, DLF Cyber City and Sirhaul village, and Hero Honda Chowk, which caters to traffic from Sector 10, Khandsa road, Sector 33 and Sohna Road. The two major intersections have a faulty design.
“The widening of the service lanes from Sirhaul toll plaza to Rajiv Chowk will decongest Shankar Chowk, Iffco Chowk, Rajiv Chowk and Hero Honda Chowk. Many offices are located in these areas and the intersections are jam- packed during peak hours,” said Arora.
