Truck catches fire upon coming into contact with overhead power cables in Gurugram

Although the truck’s driver cabin was charred after it came into contact with the 11KV electric line, the driver and helper managed to jump off before the cabin caught fire.

A truck driver and his co-driver had a narrow escape after the front portion of the truck they were driving in caught fire upon coming in contact with a high-tension electricity line near Palam Vihar on Old Delhi-Gurugram road around 6am on Wednesday.

Although the truck’s driver cabin was charred after it came into contact with the 11KV electric line, the driver and helper managed to jump off before the cabin caught fire, fire department officials said.

Ramesh, the lead fireman, said that the incident took place next to Shani temple near the Maruti company’s gate number 2 and one fire tender was rushed to the area to douse the flames.

“A call was received at 6.24am and a fire tender was rushed immediately. The fire was controlled in about 20 minutes and no one was injured in the incident,” said Ramesh.

Fire officials who went to the spot said that the fire could have been due to a short circuit. No police complaint was filed, said officials of the Palam Vihar police station, under whose jurisdiction the area falls.

Incidents of fire have been reported frequently.

On April 30, two persons were burnt alive after the cab they were travelling in burst into flames after being hit by a speeding canter on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway at Rajiv Chowk.

On March 30, a 56-year-old man was charred to death after his sedan caught fire due to a suspected leakage in car’s CNG kit near Garhi Harsaru village.

On March 11, an unidentified person was charred to death after a white Maruti Swift Dzire car had caught fire near Ullahawas village.

In January 2017, a concrete mixer truck had crashed into a high-tension electric tower on the road dividing sectors 65 and 66, leading to a power outage across the sectors.
