Two minor girls pregnant after being in relationship, says child panel

Two minor girls were found pregnant in separate cases, after they were in a relationship, Child Welfare Committee (CWC) said on Wednesday. While a 15-year-old was found to be six months pregnant, another 17-year-old was found to be seven months pregnant, Shakuntala Dhull, CWC chairperson, said. “In both cases, the girls said they had a consensual relationship with the accused,” Dhull said.

In the first case, the 15-year-old from Khandsa near Sector 34, hailing from West Bengal, became pregnant after being in a relationship with a 17-year-old boy. The boy, hailing from the same village in West Bengal, had come looking for a job and was living at the house where she was staying with her mother.

On Tuesday, she complained of stomach cramps and was taken to a hospital where doctors confirmed she was pregnant and informed police.

In the other case, the 17-year-old girl living in Palam Vihar and hailing from West Bengal, became pregnant after being in a relationship with a 19-year-old man. The girl said she was in a relationship with the man, her neighbour, according to the official. The CWC has counselled both the girls and has recorded their statements.
