The arrested men were identified as Sanjay alias Sanju, 21, and Jitesh alias Meetu, 21, both from Gadoli Khurd village. They were arrested from their native village after the police received a tip-off. The police confiscated a motorcycle, an ice pick, a tool to break ice that was allegedly used to attack the victim, and clothes worn by the suspects during the incident.

Pankaj, the victim, was a native of Bihar and a resident of Saraswati Encalve, Sector 37. He was working as a domestic help at a house in Gadoli Khurd village for the past one year.

According to the police, during the interrogation, Sanjay allegedly said that he killed Pankaj after he came to know that they were in a relationship with the same woman.

In the police complaint, the victim’s father said that on September 28, Pankaj allegedly came to Saraswati Enclave with his employer on a scooter who wanted to visit her relative’s house. After dropping her, the victim allegedly told her that he was going to meet his friends and left on the scooter. When he did not return to the house, the employer allegedly called Pankaj’s father to ask him about his whereabouts. Later, they were allegedly informed that the victim’s body was recovered from SEZ in Gadoli Khurd village. There were injury marks on his face, neck and head.

A case was registered against the suspects under sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code(IPC) at Sector 10A police station on September 29.

Subhash Boken, spokesperson, city police, said, “Sanjay held a grudge against Pankaj as they were courting the same woman. He conspired with his friends, including Jitesh, and called the victim on September 28. They met at SEZ in Gadoli Khurd village and assaulted him with an ice pick and bricks.”

The police said that the arrested men were allegedly also involved in a murder that took place in Gadoli Khurd in December 2017. They had allegedly beaten two men to death with sticks and axe.

“The arrested men and their friends had burnt the bodies of the victims and buried them. All the accused persons were arrested in the case. Sanjay and Jitesh had recently come out on bail,” Boken added.

The arrested men were produced before a district court and sent to judicial custody on Thursday.
