I am 33 years old, my height is 5’2” and I weigh 74 kg. I have thyroid problems and irregular periods. I want to lose weight around my stomach and hips. Please suggest a suitable diet.

According to your height and age, your weight should be around 55-57 kg. You have to reduce at least 15-20 kg. Since you have a thyroid problem, it might take you longer to reduce your weight because of a lower metabolic rate.

Early morning: 1 glass of lukewarm water + 1-2 soaked almonds + 1 walnut.

Breakfast: 1 cup of skimmed milk + 1 plate of poha/ seviya upma.

Mid-morning: Any fruit like a pear or an apple.

Lunch: 1 chapati + 1 cup of brown rice + 1 cup of chana/ rajma + 1 cup of vegetables + salad + 1 cup of curd.

Evening snack: 1 cup of green tea + 1 dal dosa with green chutney/ an egg sandwich (egg white only).

Mid-evening: 1 glass of thin buttermilk.

Dinner: 2 mix rotis (made of wheat/ ragi/ bajra/ jowar) + 1 bowl of dal + 1 cup of

vegetables + salad.

I am six feet tall, and my weight is 65 kg. I go to the gym six days a week. I want to take whey protein supplements. Please tell me when and how much I need to take. What should I eat it with? Can you recommend a diet?

According to your height, your weight should be 78-80 kg, so you have to increase your weight by at least 12-15 kg. Whey protein is a high quality protein powder naturally found in cow’s milk.

Milk has two proteins: casein (approximately 80 per cent) and whey protein (approximately 20per cent). Whey protein is more soluble than casein and is also of a higher quality. It is often referred to as the best protein because of its nutritive value, and provides optimum nutrition that muscles can absorb quickly.

You can take whey protein supplements on your days of weight training within 45 minutes of your workout. Initially, take one scoop with complex carbohydrates such as a whole wheat sandwich or fruits. Your total protein intake should be approximately 80 gm a day.

One scoop of whey protein supplement will provide you with approximately 24 gm of proteins. You should be able to get the remaining proteins from your diet.
