A new trailer for Deadpool 2, the much-awaited sequel to Ryan Reynolds’ superhero satire, Deadpool, was released online on Wednesday, and it gives audiences their first real look at Cable, the anti-hero played by Josh Brolin.
“I was born into war, bred into it. People think they understand pain, but they have no concept of it,” he says in an ominous voice-over at the beginning of the two-and-a-half minute trailer. And then, he’s interjected by Deadpool, who, in the most Deadpool of observations, notes that the visual effects aren’t complete on Cable’s arm.
“Ah, f**k it. I’ll do it myself,” he says, and proceeds to act out the story using action figures, in the style of the homemade trailers that are so popular on YouTube.
The normal trailer then picks up again, and Cable chews through an entire squadron of armed police in a style reminiscent of John Wick. Deadpool 2’s director is David Leitch, who co-directed the first John Wick movie.
We see glimpses of several action scenes, and we get our first look at Zazie Beetz’s Domino in action, and a shot of Dopinder, Deadpool’s cabbie. It also looks like TJ Miller is still a part of the movie, after the recent accusations of sexual harassment made against him.
The movie looks like it has a bigger budget than the first film, which made fun of the lack of resources at its disposal. Deadpool 2 is scheduled for a May 18 release.
