Jennifer Lawrence: What makes her the Queen of Hollywood
As the second star of our five-part series, we take a look at actor Jennifer Lawrence and what makes her one of the most sought-after celebrities in Hollywood.
She’s known to be in your face. And besides her award-winning acting skills, her no-holds-barred attitude could well be the reason why American actor Jennifer Lawrence is one of the most popular celebrities in Hollywood.
The 26-year-old Lawrence has already been a part of big ticket box office franchises including Hunger Games and X-Men. Along with winning an Academy Award for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook (2012), she has also received multiple nominations and bagged a number of other awards, including multiple Golden Globes and Bafta awards. Always vocal about the disparity in pay between male and female actors in Hollywood, Lawrence has also been voted the wealthiest female actor in 2014.
Despite having almost zero digital presence, Lawrence is one of the most discussed celebs on social media platforms and whatever the actor is involved in gets talked about. Like the infamous nude celebrity photo leak in 2014 where Lawrence’s leaked photos generated the most amount of interest, despite several other actors’ photos being leaked. She took a strong stand against the issue, calling the leaking of private photos equal to a “sex crime” and received massive support from industry colleagues and billions of fans.
Similarly, when she raised her voice against unequal pay along with Scarlett Johansson, she saw Hollywood biggies, including Meryl Streep and Helen Mirren, come out in her support.
Did you know:
Lawrence graduated from high school two years early in order to begin acting.
By age 23, she became the youngest actress to be nominated for three Oscars, including two of them for leading roles, one of which she won.
She gave her Oscar to her parents, who keep it in their home in Louisville, Kentucky, because she felt “odd” having it in her own house.
She also auditioned for the role of Bella Swan in Twilight (2008), but lost it to Kristen Stewart.
She beat out a slew of talented actresses, including Blake Lively, Kirsten Dunst, Rooney Mara, and Anne Hathaway for the lead role in Silver Linings Playbook.
Her nickname at school was “Nitro” because she was so energetic and full of life.

The miserable ones are the ones where all the girls auditioning are in the same room. There’s no talking in those rooms. I’ve tried.
I like when things are hard; I’m very competitive. If something seems difficult or impossible, it interests me. I always felt dumber than everybody else. I hated it. I hated being inside. I hated being behind a desk. School just kind of killed me.
I never play characters that are like me because I’m a boring person. I wouldn’t want to see me in a movie.
[on Josh Hutcherson] Whenever Josh is like “I don’t think you should do it like that.” And then I’m like “Oh, really? Do you wanna tell that to my Oscar?”.
I don’t like going out that much. I’m kind of an old lady. After it’s 11, I’m like, “Don’t these kids ever get tired?” When I’m out, I think about my couch.
