As part of an Oscar for Leo campaign, his crazy female fans from the Yakutia region are melting down their valuable gold and silver jewellery and trinkets so that they can create the Oscar statuette for the 41-year-old actor, the Independent reports.
In an interview with a news channel, a teacher from the Arctic State Institute of Culture and Arts, Tatiana Egorova, revealed that some women donated only half a set of jewellery, while kept other half in an attempt to feel closer to the actor.
She said, “Like one half will be with Leonardo DiCaprio and one half with them. To be somehow connected with the actor.” She also estimated that the statuette, which is expected to be around 12 inches tall, is worth 100,000 rubles.
Dipcario will be competing against Eddie Redmayne for The Danish Girl, Michael Fassbender for Steve Jobs, Bryan Cranston for Trumbo and Matt Damon for The Martian at the Oscars this year.
