One-film-old actor Suraj Sharma, who starred in the multiple Oscar-nominated Hollywood film Life of Pi (2012), is busy attending award ceremonies and events across the world with his director Ang Lee. And, while meeting the who’s who of Hollywood gives him a “different high”, travelling tires him out.

“I have to fly out in every two-three days and come back again. It’s tiring... But it’s a humbling moment when you realise the room is filled with people who’ve made these movies and what they are today. It’s overwhelming, and you try not to be too awkward,” says the Delhi-based lad, who attended the BAFTA awards in London last night. He was the only male actor nominated for the BAFTA Rising Star award, this year.

So, is he recognised by Hollywood stars at award dos? “Sometimes. Most of the times, I just walk around. Probably because
I had a wig around in most of the film,” he quips. Ask him about the number of tuxedos he owns now, and the 19-year-old says, “I
only own two. I’m not really into clothes.”

With 11 Oscar nominations, Life of Pi is second in running after Steven Spielberg’s film, Lincoln, which has 12. “We all are really happy. Everybody is holding their breath,” says Sharma, who already has quite a few international offers.

“There are three or four offers. But none to the point right now which have proceeded for me to act in,” he concludes.
