Surprise winners at Guild awards

The star-studded Screen Actors Guild Awards were high on surprises this year.

Unexpected wins and losses were the highlight of the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, held on Sunday night in Los Angeles.

Oscar favourites George Clooney and Meryl Streep lost to fellow nominees Jean Dujardin and Viola Davis respectively, at the gala that saw 53-year-old Alec Baldwin winning the statute for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series for the sixth year in a row, for his work in 30 Rock.

Backstage, he poked fun at being thrown off an American Airlines flight in December for not switching off his mobile phone when asked to, as he was engrossed in a game of Words With Friends.

He told the reporters, “I am still playing Words With Friends, but on Virgin Atlantic.”
