100 fall ill after wedding feast in Bihar’s Bhojpur

Police said the people started vomiting and complained of stomach ache soon after the dinner at Barauli village of Bihar.

Around a hundred people fell all after a wedding feast in Bihar’s Bhojpur district on Sunday night due to suspected food poisoning.

Police said the people started vomiting and complained of stomach ache soon after the dinner at Barauli village, 92 km southwest of state capital Patna.

Police suspect that the food which was prepared earlier in the day had turned stale by the time it was served to the guests.

Station house officer Janmajay Rai of Piro police station said the affected people were immediately taken to the primary health centre, which referred them to Sadar hospital at district headquarters Ara, about 45 km from Barauli. “Some affected people were also admitted to private nursing homes at Ara,” Rai said.

Bhojpur civil surgeon Dr Ras Bihari Singh said 85 people were brought to Ara Sadar hospital at 3.30 am on Monday. Thirty five people were discharged after primary treatment, Singh said, adding that 50 others were still undergoing treatment at the government health facility.

The rush of patients overwhelmed the facility’s emergency ward which has only 10 beds and many patients had to lie on the floor during the treatment.

“If patients come in such a large number, there will be scarcity of beds. But all the patients were provided proper treatment and they are out of danger,” Dr Singh added.
