Kolkata: A third-year student of Jadavpur University allegedly died by suicide by jumping into the river from a running train in West Midnapore district of West Bengal on Tuesday night, police said.

The body was recovered from the river on Wednesday morning and sent for autopsy.

According to the police, the 20-year-old student, a resident of Bankura district, was returning home by train from Kolkata with his mother on Tuesday.

“At night his mother went to the washroom. When she came back to her seat, she couldn’t find her son. Fellow passengers informed her that her son was standing near the door,” a family member said on Wednesday.

The deceased’s father said that his son was suffering from depression and was taking medicines.
