68 kg ganja seized in Bihar’s Kaimur, two women among 6 smugglers arrested
Police first intercepted an SUV and recovered 10 kg ganja near Durgawati. They later raided a house at Khajura Bazaar on Bihar-UP border and recovered another 58 kg of contraband.
With the arrest of six persons and recovery of 68 kg ganja from them, police in Kaimur district of southwest Bihar claimed to have busted an inter-district drug racket. The value of the seized contraband was Rs 25 lakh, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Mohania sub divisional police officer Manoj Ram intercepted a sports utility vehicle (SUV) on national highway (NH)-2 near Durgawati, 183 km southwest of Patna, arrested three persons and recovered from them 10kg ganja kept in two sealed packets.
Police said the arrested persons, identified as SUV owner Manoj Kumar Gupta, driver Mithilesh Kumar Sharma of Sasaram and Vinod Sao of Baraon, revealed that they had lifted the ganja from Masarh near Ara in Bhojpur district, 55 km west of Patna. The ya also confessed to have delivered consignments of the contraband to Sanjay Dubey at Dehri-on-Sone in Kaimur district and Raj Kumar Gupta of Khajura Bazaar on Bihar-Uttar Pradesh border, police said.
A police team later raided the house of Gupta and the shop of Munna Sao and recovered 58kg of ganja. Gupta, his wife Chanda and mother-in-law Bechari Kuwanr had been arrested, the police said, adding that the family had been involved in ganja smuggling for long and Kumwar was arrested and sent jail twice.

Calling it a big success, Kaimur superintendent of police (SP) Harpreet Kaur said the police had busted a major drug racket. The arrested persons had disclosed the names and addresses of suppliers and other persons involved in the clandestine trade in Bhojpur, Rohtas and Kaimur districts. The SP said she had contacted her counterparts in Bhojpur and Rohtas districts and police were launching a coordinated action against the narcotics mafia.
