Ahead of polls, Amit Shah to flag off BJP Rath Yatras in Tripura

Union minister of home affairs Amit Shah will flag off the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Rath Yatra from two places in Tripura on Thursday, said chief minister Dr. Manik Saha.

“Keeping our Assembly polls in the forefront, our Union home minister will kick off the Rath Yatras. We (the BJP government in the state) started our journey in 2018 with the blessings of the people and now we are going to start with biswas (faith) of the people,” Saha told media persons at the BJP election office in Agartala.

The assembly elections in Tripura are likely to be held by March this year.

The Rath Yatra will be organised under the banner ‘Janabiswas Yatra’ and is scheduled to begin at Dharmanagar in North district at 11am, followed by a mass gathering after which Shah would take lunch at a BJP activist’s home. Later, he will flag off the second yatra at Sabroom in South district at 2pm.

After flagging off the rath yatras, Shah will leave for New Delhi, Saha added.

“Polls will come and go. But we are working for the people throughout the year. Our government is transparent and follows good governance. Amid our limitations, we are trying to make people happy,” said Saha.

The eight-day-long rath yatra will conclude at Agartala on January 12 where BJP national president JP Nadda will address a gathering.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union ministers Kiren Rijiju, Sarbananda Sonowal, Bengal BJP general secretary Locket Chatterjee, Bengal opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari and other central leaders are among the star campaigners of the Rath Yatra, said BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharya.

Apart from the yatra, at least 200 meetings and padayatras and road shows will also be organised.

“The Rath Yatras will cover nearly 1,000 kilometers. It will cover almost all the Assembly constituencies,” said Bhattacharya.
