A 29-year-old woman committed suicide by jumping on the rail track at the Sector 16 Metro station on the Delhi Metro’s Blue Line in Noida on Friday morning.

According to the woman’s family, Sheetal Srivastava, 29, was living with her husband Devesh in Sector 22. They married nine years ago and have a three-yearold daughter. Sheetal worked with a private firm in Sector 16.

“The CCTV footage showed she was alone at the station. She waited for some time and jumped before the train at 10.45 am,” said Rajveer Singh Chauhan, station house officer, Sector 20 Police Station. No suicide note was found on her, he said.

According to a family member, who did not wish to be named, she had a marital dispute. “But we did not expect it to take such a tragic turn,” the person said.

Pawan Kumar, who is in charge of the Sector 19 police post, said the Metro staff found her I-card in her bag and informed Sheetal’s family. “The body was taken to a private hospital where she was declared brought dead. We were informed by the hospital staff. The body was sent for postmortem. No FIR has been registered in the case as we are yet to receive a complaint,” he said.

A Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) official said service on the Blue Line between Noida’s Electronic City and Dwarka was resumed after seven minutes.

“The incident took place at 10.45 am. The body was removed immediately. The operation remained disrupted for seven minutes. After removing the body from the track, normal operation on the section resumed at 10.52 am,” a DMRC official said.
