Akhilesh Yadav had accused the BJP of dividing society and called for the need to “save true Hindutva” by “true Hindus”.

All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday hit out at Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav over his ‘need to save true Hindutva’ remark.

"Akhilesh Yadav said that it is necessary to save real 'Hindutva'. In Legislative Assembly elections he got one-sided Muslim votes...BJP is trying to marginalise & target Muslims in the entire country. Akhilesh Yadav wants to save Hindutva, doesn't he want to save secularism or the Constitution?... Muslims in India need to understand that they need to have an independent political voice..." the Hyderabad MP told ANI.

On Saturday, Yadav had accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using its own version of Hindutva to “divide society and grab power”.

The BJP's 'Hindutva' is focussed on dividing society and there is a need to save the "true Hindutva" by true Hindus. We have to save people from fake Hindus who misused Hindutva for grabbing power", PTI quoted the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister as saying.

Akhilesh Yadav claimed the opposition Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A) will uproot the "divisive" BJP government in 2024.

“The SP is there. More parties that are willing to join the INDIA alliance are welcome. Our PDA (Pichhade, Dalit and Alpsankhyak) will defeat the BJP this time. The BJP has done nothing except dividing the society”, he added.

Owaisi's party AIMIM was not invited to the opposition parties' meeting in Bengaluru where the name of alliance as I.N.D.I.A was decided. Waris Pathan, AIMIM leader, had said that he and his party were “political untouchables” for the opposition.

“They did not call us, we are political untouchables for them", Pathan had said. Twenty six opposition parties which had won 134 seats and secured 35 per cent votes in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls had joined hands to form a united front against the BJP.
