Cash rush: SBI employee dies after collapsing in bank

An employee of the State Bank of India’s Gandhi Nagar branch here died after collapsing while on duty on Friday amid a rush of customers looking to exchange scrapped high-value currency.

Long queues of customers at banks and ATMs in the wake of the Narendra Modi government’s surprise decision to demonetise Rs 500 and 1,000 notes has forced bank employees to work overtime and with few off days.
The rush at the Gandhi Nagar branch was higher on Friday as the banks, which remained open last weekend to cater to their customers, were expected to remain shut on Saturday.
