Cyclone Fani makes landfall: Here are the helpline numbers
The Odisha government has already evacuated nearly one million people and shifted them to safer areas, Shelters have been set up in all coastal districts and 5000 kitchens are operational.
The Home ministry has operationalised a helpline number 1938 to handle situations arising from ‘extremely severe’ cyclone Fani that made landfall in Odisha’s Puri on Friday morning with strong winds and heavy rainfall.
The Odisha government has already evacuated nearly one million people and shifted them to safer areas, Shelters have been set up in all coastal districts and 5000 kitchens are operational. The National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) and Coast Guard teams are also on alert.
The emergency numbers for all districts of Odisha were also shared by All India Radio News.
The storm made landfall at arounfd 8.30 am and will completely cross the land by noon, the Met office said
The cyclone moved close to north coastal Andhra before it made landfall in neighbouring Odisha.
Under its impact, gusty winds with speed reaching up to 140 kmph lashed the coastal area of Srikakulam district.
Srikakulam District Collector J. Nivas said three houses were damaged due to the winds but there was no loss of life.
