'Don’t get misled': Mamata Banerjee after BJP's attack over Ganga Aarti
BJP workers scuffled with police personnel in Kolkata’s Babughat area on Tuesday after Majumdar along with others took part in a Ganga Aarti programme even as they were allegedly denied permission to do so.
A day after West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar alleged that he and his party colleagues were denied permission to conduct 'Ganga Aarti' on the occasion of the Gangasagar Mela, starting in the state later this week, chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday urged all pilgrims to uphold peace and avoid being misled by rumour, adding all the preparations have been made.

“Everything is set up for the Gangasagar Mela. Ganga Aarti preparations have started. Ambulances and fire engines have also been arranged. I urge all pilgrims to keep the peace, not believe in any rumours, and only listen to government announcements on the loudspeaker in order to prevent any untoward incidents”, Banerjee was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

BJP workers scuffled with police personnel in Kolkata’s Babughat area on Tuesday after Majumdar along with others took part in a Ganga Aarti programme even as they were allegedly denied permission to do so.
In a series of tweets, Majumdar had targeted the chief minister as he claimed that the state police "first didn't give permission for Ganga Aarti at Babu Ghat". "When we performed the Aarti at nearby other ghat, they arrested me along with our MLA, district presidents and other karyakartas while returning," he had tweeted.
"The police are citing the G-20 summit. It is being held in the Bidhannagar-Newtown area, and our event is at Babughat, which is quite far away. The police, under the instructions of the TMC, are stopping us from organising the event," he had said.
The allegations were, however, dubbed as baseless by the Trinamool Congress. "We have nothing to do with the police's permission. The BJP is trying to import the politics of UP and Hindi heartland in the state and vitiate the atmosphere of the state," TMC leader Debanghsu Bhattacharya was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
