Election Results highlights: Modi to be sworn-in as PM at 7.15 pm on June 9

The proposal to nominate Narendra Modi for a third term as Prime Minister has been put forth during the NDA meeting in the old Parliament building. The proposal, initiated by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, garnered unanimous agreement from all NDA Members of Parliament (MPs) present.

During the meeting, Singh addressed the gathering, extending congratulations to the newly elected MPs and proposing Modi's name for PM. He said, "I believe that PM Narendra Modi's name is the most suitable for all these posts."

He further said,"We are fortunate that we are going to get a sensitive Prime Minister like Modi ji...I would like to make it clear that this alliance is not a compulsion for us but a commitment."

Echoing Singh's sentiments, BJP leader Amit Shah said there is a "widespread support" for Modi, saying, "This proposal is not only the desire of the people sitting here. This is the proposal of 140 crore people in the country...This is the voice of the country that PM Modi leads the country for the next 5 years."

An analysis of the vote share in Tamil Nadu shows that the state’s opposition could have put up a fight if the AIADMK and BJP - who broke off last September - had contested together given that they have polled 23% and 18% along with their allies respectively. The DMK-led coalition of the INDIA bloc had a landslide victory winning all the 39 seats in Tamil Nadu and the lone parliamentary seat in neighbouring Puducherry. The DMK’s rainbow alliance garnered a 46.97% vote share. Together the coalitions of former partners AIADMK and BJP despite drawing a blank have secured 41.33%-- 5.6% less than the winning combination.

It is a very good thing that all of us have come together and we will all work together with you (PM Modi). You will be swearing in as the Prime Minister on Sunday, but I wanted you to do it today itself. Whenever you take the oath, we will be with you...We will all work together under your leadership..."

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief Chandrababu Naidu supported the proposal to name Modi as the leader of NDA during the alliance's meeting on Friday.

“We extend our congratulations as we have achieved a remarkable majority. Throughout the election campaign, I observed Prime Minister Modi's tireless efforts. He campaigned tirelessly for three months, day and night, with unwavering determination. In Andhra Pradesh, our series of public meetings and a major rally had a significant impact on our electoral success,” he said.

BJP MP Rajnath Singh nominates Narendra Modi for the positions of Leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party, Leader of the NDA Parliamentary Party, and Leader of the Lok Sabha.

I'm pleased to announce that the NDA government was also established in Andhra Pradesh. Additionally, in Arunachal Pradesh, we formed our government for the third time. NDA also secured its government in Sikkim... We recall that a decade ago, India was perceived differently; it was believed that nothing would change here. Today, ten years later, under PM Modi's leadership, the same India has transformed into an aspiring nation, determined to achieve the status of a developed country.”

During the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting on Friday, BJP national president JP Nadda said, “We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Prime Minister, who has dedicated every moment to serving the nation. This dedication is why India is making history today, and the NDA is forming a government for the third consecutive time with a majority.”

Manipur Chief Minister and BJP leader N Biren Singh speaking about Narendra Modi taking oath as Prime Minister says, “This is the public mandate. PM Modi will take oath as PM for the third time and make India stronger.”

BJP's newly elected MP from Hamirpur Anurag Thakur says, "I am grateful to the voters of Hamirpur... The BJP-NDA government is going to be formed under the leadership of PM Modi.... We will become the world's third-largest economy in the coming time... The alliance partners of the NDA will take the country forward under PM Modi's leadership..."
