Election Results highlights: Modi to be sworn-in as PM at 7.15 pm on June 9

Janata Dal-Secular leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy affirmed on Friday his party's support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to form a "stable government."

Speaking to ANI as he arrived in the national capital to attend the NDA MPs meeting, Kumaraswamy said, "We are all with him (PM Modi), we are joining hands with only NDA. Not only me but the entire country has a lot of expectations from PM Modi regarding developments, several problems have to be solved."

"There is no demand at all. Stable government is required for the country, and for that, we are joining hands with him," he said.

On reports of demands put forth by NDA allies, the JD(S) leader said, "Ultimately, everybody will agree."

"NDA's Parliamentary Party meeting is being held today. Narendra Modi has been elected as NDA's Parliamentary Party leader and the first meeting will be held under his chairmanship. It is an important meeting and there will be discussions over Narendra Modi taking oath as prime minister for the third time. On reports of demands by his party, he says, "...I refute these rumours. LJP is completely dedicated to our leader Narendra Modi. There is no doubt about it. In the NDA meeting held the day before yesterday, LJP extended the support to the leadership of PM Modi without any conditions. So, the party has no demands. I can say on behalf of the NDA that no party presented any demands that day. Everyone extended the support unconditionally. Today, NDA will probably submit the letter of support to PM Modi's leadership to the President today."

On the NDA meeting, he says, "This is just a formality to choose the PM as the leader (of NDA Parliamentary Party). We contested the election under his leadership. Under his leadership, we have the capability that NDA is forming the government for the third consecutive time with a thumping majority. All NDA MPs will gather together and this formality will be completed. NDA is going to form the government soon and PM is going to take the oath for the third time. The Government will be as strong as it functioned in the last 10 years..."

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dinesh Sharma on Friday said that the entire opposition could not manage to win as many seats as the BJP did in the recent Lok Sabha polls and added that it is laughable that Congress which could not cross the 100 mark is celebrating.

"BJP is a cadre-based party, we will review and make sure that we work on our weaknesses. It is laughable that those (Congress) who could not even get 100 seats are celebrating and the entire opposition could not get as many seats as BJP alone. They are comparing their performance with us while we are forming our government for the third time in a row," former UP Deputy CM Dinesh Sharma told reporters.

He further said that the BJP has put up a good performance in the southern states in the Lok Sabha polls.

"This is a historic event that under the leadership of PM Modi, NDA is going to form its govt for the third time. Earlier people used to call BJP a party of the North but now BJP has a mandate in the South as well," he said.

Shiv Sena leader Milind Deora says, "Shiv Sena has only one target to strengthen PM Modi. He has been re-elected as Prime Minister for the third time. This is the first time that a Prime Minister has been given a third term after 6 decades..."

Author-philanthropist and Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty arrives at the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will leave Dhaka on June 8 to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.

"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will leave Dhaka for Delhi at 11 am on Saturday, June 8 and will return home at noon on June 10 after attending the swearing-in ceremony of PM Narendra Modi, due to the change in the oath-taking ceremony dates," said Bangladesh PM's Speech Writer, M Nazrul Islam.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited his Bangladeshi counterpart to attend his swearing-in ceremony on Sunday. Sheikh Hasina accepted the invitation.

In a post on X, Press Minister of the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, Shaban Mahmood, revealed that Prime Minister Hasina's visit is in response to an invitation extended by Prime Minister Modi.

Were you surprised by this amazing mandate that you got?

To be honest, no I was not surprised. I would say this was the hard work done by me and my party workers and it was a very deserved victory to be very honest. We were very confident from the kind of support we were getting from the people, specially for the vision of Bihar First, Bihari First, that gives me very much confidence that we will bag all the five seats. Yes, all the credit goes to my party people and the people of Bihar.

What do you think of the profile of the candidates that the people have voted for?

The voters have voted for the samikaran, now let me tell what this samikaran is, there are parties that are making political equations on the basis of casteism, communism and very proudly they flaunt. Whereas, my samikaran comes from “Mahila, and Yuva'' and that’s what is represented in my candidates, if you look at them, there are four young candidates, there is Rajesh verma a young educated guy, Arun Bharti, a MBA guy from Jamui, There’s is Sahntuni Choudhary from Samasti pur, she is one of the youngest MP, these are those faces who represents the youngsters of my state.Anyways this the kind of image i want portray in the country of Bihar. Till date Bihar was known for Apradh, Bhrshtachaarand now you have these young educated faces, who very well talk about Bihar.

Now, we have mahila 40% from these seats, there are two female MPs out of five, so Nari shakti adhiniyam was 100% implemented by my Party. This is my samikaran, for what the people of my state have voted for.

When asked if Muslim Reservation will continue in Andhra Pradesh, TDP leader K Ravindra Kumar says, "...Yes, we will continue that. There is no problem at all."

He also says, "...Today, there is NDA meeting. A preliminary meeting was held on 5th June. Today is the second meeting. Some assistance will be taken from the NDA allies in the second meeting. After that, there is an NDA MPs' meeting too. PM is expected to take oath on 9th June. That is why, before that we have to elect the NDA leader and we have to submit the necessary request to the President. Then MPs' meeting will go on. Thereafter, we will discuss issue-wise..."

When asked about the demands of TDP, party leader K Ravindra Kumar says, "Today is not the stage to discuss the demands but we are a part of the NDA. The question of demand doesn't arise. It is a pre-poll alliance. We used to take the assistance of the Centre whenever required. We used to take the schemes of the Centre and also Centre-State sharing seats and also AP Reorganisation Act. So many things are there, it is an ongoing process...First priority is that Andhra Pradesh has to be reconstructed since it has gone back by 25 years."

On JDU parliamentary meeting at Bihar CM Nitish Kumar's residence, gangster-turned-politician Anand Mohan says, "The demand for the railway ministry is confirmed. It has been in Bihar's share... The Backward Bihar needs the railway ministry... The CM took Bihar out of 'jungle-raj' and made a developing Bihar in the last 16 years. If we want to give it wings, then the 'special' state demanded must be fulfilled..."

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar called the defamation suit filed by the Karnataka BJP unit against him, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi a 'bogus case'.

Speaking to ANI on Friday on the case, Shivakumar said, "BJP has filed a false, bogus case against me, CM Siddaramaiah and Rahul Gandhi and summons have been issued. In order to respect the court, Rahul Gandhi will attend the court today."

Rahul Gandhi arrived in Bengaluru earlier in the day to appear before a special court in the city in connection with the case.

Gandhi was received by Shivakumar and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at the Bengaluru airport.

The BJP in the complaint had alleged that the advertisements in local newspapers and 'false campaigning' by Congress ahead of the 2023 state assembly elections damaged BJP's image. The case was registered against against Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

The Communist Party of India (CPI) Rajya Sabha MP Binoy Viswam has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the removal of statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr BR Ambedkar and Chhatrapati Shivaji from the Parliament House premise with "no clarity" on their relocation.

"These statues are not mere metal, brick-and-mortar but the embodiment of our nation's struggle for liberation, equality and indomitable spirit of our people in reshaping our destiny after snatching freedom from colonial clutches," Viswam wrote.

The CPI MP from Kerala further said that the old Parliament Building, now called Samvidhan Sadan, was a living testament to "seminal moments" in our history.

On JDU parliamentary meeting at Bihar CM Nitish Kumar's residence, the party's newly elected MP from Bhagalpur Ajay Kumar Mandal says, "... I never think of becoming anything in the party. I am a soldier of the party... It is the leader who will make decisions. I will accept whatever they decide and will do as they say... I cannot say who will be the ministers..."

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Friday said that the new government at the Centre should focus on addressing grievances of the farmers and fulfil its previous promises made to them previously.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to take oath for the third successive term in office on June 9, sources said.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who was the Food Processing Industries Minister (2014-2020) in Prime Minister Modi's government said that no one should be allowed to label Punjabis as "atankwadi" (terrorist).

"I urge union govt to focus on farmer grievances and fulfil the promises made. No one should be allowed to label Punjabis as atankwadi or ugarwadi and fan communal divisions. Punjabis are foremost patriots, serving the nation on the borders and as food providers. We deserve better," Harsimrat Kaur Badal posted on X.
