Four killed, one missing as heavy rains lash Bhopal

As per the meteorological department, a low pressure area now lies over north east Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood, which is likely to cause ‘widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rain fall’ over west Madhya Pradesh during the next 24 hours.

Four persons, including three of a family, died in two separate incidents of wall collapse on Tuesday as heavy rains lashed the district since since Monday evening, an official said.

A minor went missing after he was swept away in an overflowing drain in Bhopal, said collector Sudama P Khade.

The three of the family - a woman and her two daughters - died when a wall of a government bungalow collapsed on their adjacent house in a slum of Kamal Nagar area about 4 am on Tuesday.

The deceased, identified as Shumaila, 28, wife of Mohd Azeem and her daughters Tanjeem, 6, and Areeba, 4, were sleeping when the incident took place. All died on the spot, as per official sources.

Azeem, a labourer, also sustained serious injuries in the incident and was rushed to Hamidia hospital for treatment.

Bhopal Mayor Alok Sharma, Khade, deputy inspector general of police, Bhopal, Dharmendra Chaudhary, and municipal commissioner Avinash Lavania reached the spot.

The unidentified boy was swept away in a drain in Teela Jamalpur locality of Bhopal and a rescue operation has been launched to find him, Khade said.
