“Pleased to confirm this story. We filed (the defamation case) today. Had enough of his campaign of calumny,” Tharoor tweeted.

Goswami’s Republic TV had recently aired what it called an exposé with regard to the death of the Congress leader’s wife Sunanda Pushkar.

It played tapes of a conversation between a reporter and Tharoor’s assistant Narayan on the night of Pushkar’s death.

Pushkar was found dead in a five-star hotel in south Delhi on the night of January 17, 2014.

The Thiruvananthapuram MP has said he had nothing to hide and had been fully cooperative with the police.

He had rubbished the Republic TV report, saying the news channel was indulging in a publicity stunt to get attention.

“Exasperating farrago of distortions, misrepresentations & outright lies being broadcast by an unprincipled showman masquerading as a journalist,” he had earlier tweeted about the news report.
