At a meeting of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs, the officials were asked how safety of Aadhaar data was being ensured since it is now being linked with mobile numbers and bank accounts, said a member who was present.

The meeting of the committee, headed by senior Congress leader and former home minister P Chidambaram, was attended by home secretary Rajiv Gauba, director general of UIDAI and some other senior government officials.

The officials offered assurance that the data is in safe custody and the all required steps are being taken to ensure that it cannot be breached, the member said on the condition of anonymity.
